The Little Things ...

This is going to be a bit of a personal post and I doubt there will be much of a response to this but I'd really love it if you guys would stick with this post and read till the end. I've been wanting to write this blog post for a while now so... No time like the present I suppose!

So I've been a bit down for the last few weeks (nothing serious don't worry) about a lot of small things and the problem with small things is that they all creep up on you at once rather than one huge big issue that stares you straight in the face.

I realise no ones life is easy and we all face different issues, what troubles me may not even be half as worrying as something one of you lovely people are going through and vice versus. If you're anything like me and when you're sad or upset you'd prefer to sit in your bed watching TV shows and eating your body weight in junk food until you die of either a heart ache or old age then this may help you. However I do think this is a universal thing so if you're more sensible than me and prefer to talk about your feelings this will work just fine for you guys too!

I just want everyone to focus on the little things (no not the one direction song), it's very hard to just suddenly feel better and I respond very badly to cliches like 'plenty of fish in the sea' or 'time heals all wounds' or 'just try you're hardest that's all the counts' or 'as long as you try your best we'll be proud' because those are things people just say to make you feel better for that tiny window they're with you.

Focusing on the little things however is a personal thing specific to you it's what makes you happy! What makes you smile or laugh or giggle is not what someone else will need to cheer them up. I'll give you a few examples of things that make me happy even though they are so tiny and insignificant.

At my universtiy and many others there is a free bus service that runs between the two campuses so that students can get to and fro without spending any money. It's a very odd thing to notice but I've been noticing it for a while now and it makes me smile every time I see this. The shuttle buses for the uni run regularly so you tend to meet the bus coming the opposite direction on the other side of the road and every single time no matter the mood of the driver, the weather outside, the time of day, the gender of the driver they will always raise their hands and give a small wave and a smile to the driver of the other bus. Everytime, all day long no matter whether they've seen that bus two minutes earlier or not. It may just be me but it puts a smile on my face and it cheers me up only slightly and it's not just here at uni I've noticed it all over the place!

Here is a list of other random things that make me smile:
-The video of a manatee swimming into a glass window on YouTube
-The fact that my boyfriend keeps saying Dominos (pizza) instead of Doritos (crisps) and he doesn't even realise he's doing it.
-The comments my subscribers leave me on all of my social networking sites
-Japanese cooking videos even though I'm the pickiest person ever and can barely eat a normal meal without asking to have something changed.
-Storage containers even though I never use them all
-Seeing someone I barely know walking past me but always smiling to say Hello just because it's friendly.
-Notebooks I will never write in because they're too pretty
-Hearing my parents reactions down the phone when I call and say 'Hey Mum it's Rufus'

The point is there are thousands of small unique things that make you smile and you may just be looking straight past them. Remember to stop for a second on the bus, the walk to school, in a lecture, at work or in your room. Take a deep breath and decide to ignore your problems just for a second and find something that doesn't matter in the slightest to brighten your day.

I love you guys so much.
Thank you for listening.
